We continued fieldwork and the weather got
worse, it rained and was windy but not unbearably so. There are more volunteers every day, which is
nice. Dr. Dinnel seems pleased with the progress that is being made. I ended the day about ankle deep
in water inside my right boot and I know I didn’t flood it. Dr. Dinell mentioned COSSE has a small budget
and we stopped on the way back to Shannon point point and picked up waders for
me that even fit!
Right after we finished up it got nice out so when I got back
to Shannon Point I puttered a bit then biked into town. I had no real direction but had noticed a
small bike repair shop next to Marine Hardware where I got my boots, it was
small and looked much more my pace than the fancy shop up the road. Bikespot is primarily bike repair and Carolyn
and Nike are super nice and helpful.
They noticed my fancy new Kona bag right away and I let them check it
out, instant cred. Not only did I pick
up a pump and they loaned me the tools to attach it right then but in 30
seconds diagnosed and fixed my rear brake issue. The cable wasn’t seated right
from when I removed the rear tire to fit my bike in the trunk, Carolyn showed
me exactly what happened and how to fix it as she did it. I promised to come back to build my repair
kit and get some schooling on my rear derailer.
She offered help then but I told her I wanted an excuse to ride in to
town again soon and promised to come back.
I then hit up the Soroptomists second hand store where I grabbed a few
tank tops hopeful of weather changes, grabbed a few groceries at the store and
headed home. We ended up watching Dirty
Dancing because Sara hadn’t seen it. I
am having fun spending evenings being social with the group.
