Summer shows up on July 4th

A beautiful 4th on Fidalgo Bay
It was a gorgeous day out and we got to start fieldwork at 10.  Again we had a good bunch of volunteers and everyone was extra cheerful because of the weather.
The days volunteers
Volunteers hard at work.
Today the group I was with both counted shells and native oysters but measured the native oysters as well.  Work went fast and well plus both of my feet stayed dry all day!
Sunshine!

New waders means two dry feet.
I talked to a fair amount of people who were biking or walking the trestle and asked what we were up to.  (The trestle was converted from a railroad trestle to a public path at one point.) Almost everyone thanked us for the work we are doing.
There were a lot of snail eggs in the kelp where we were working today, they look like ribbons and are actually kind of pretty.   We also found a live Pacific oyster which is rare but not unheard of according to Dr. Dinnel.

No matter the weather I end up pretty muddy by the end of the day.
Muddy, always muddy.
